PARCHMENT, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, it was a busy weekend in wrestling. Coldwater had a 2-and-3 record at the Parchment Invitational. The Cardinals were defeated by Schoolcraft and Hart but then they beat Central Montcalm, Climax-Athens, and East Grand Rapids. Mohammed Aljabaly had a 5-and-0 record and Randall Linton was 4-and-0. Austin Siegel and Josh Powes both went 4-and-1 and Nooh Aljabaly was 3-and-1. Coldwater’s season record is now 13-and-20.
Also in wrestling, Quincy had a 3-and-2 record at the Caudill Invitational at Homer. The Orioles started out with losses to Olivet and Battle Creek Lakeview and then they beat Reading, Michigan Center, and Homer. Going undefeated on the day for Quincy were Luke Wiser at 5-and-0 and then at 4-and-0, Dalton Hard and Jacob Massey. Meanwhile, Tyler Massey, Nate Smith, and Tyler Smith each went 4-and-1 and Dallas Connin was 3-and-1. The Orioles overall record is 10-and-10.
Also on Saturday, Bronson took third place at the 45th annual Goshen Invitational. The Vikings total was 175 points while meet winner Goshen had 217. Leading Bronson was Joe Albarran, who brought home the gold medal at 145 pounds. Earning runner-up medals on the day for the Vikings were Wes Disbro, Jake Littlefield, Hunter Machus, Brandon Losinski, and Leonardo Mora.
And there was boy’s basketball over the weekend as Union City was a winner at home Saturday night with a 56-to-39 victory over Centreville. Emmet Fraley had 19 points and 16 rebounds for the Chargers, who have won 5 straight to improve to 6-and-1. Union City also won the j-v game 41-to-31 with ten points for Colin Kreger along with 6 points and 8 rebounds for Caleb Stickney.
