COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, in wrestling, Coldwater hosted a SMAC East quad meet and the Cardinals dropped a pair of matches, losing 52-to-18 to Battle Creek Lakeview and 53-to-7 to Battle Creek Central. Mohammed Aljabaly was 2-and-0 on the night for Coldwater while also earning wins for the Cardinals against Lakeview were Josh Powers, Chris Vandenhout, and Austin Seagle.
Also in wrestling, county rivals Union City and Quincy faced off in Big Eight action at Union City and the visiting Orioles won the meet 36-to-24. Leading Quincy to the victory were Nate Smith and Clay McKinley with pin wins while Hunter Winger and Luke Wiser earned decision victories. The Orioles picked up their other points on a trio of void victories. Winners for Union City with pins were Jared Shepard and Logan Dowell while earning decisions were Spencer Connell and Taylor Howard. The Chargers had one void victory and there were two double voids in the meet. Quincy improved to 3-and-2 in the conference and 11-and-10 overall while Union City’s Big Eight record is now 2-and-3.
On tonight’s high school schedule, in girl’s basketball, Quincy hosts Jonesville while Union City is at Springport. And there’s reserve hoops action, including the Coldwater junior varsity and freshman boy’s teams at home against Sturgis while the Trojans will host Coldwater for the girl’s contests. The freshman tip off at 4:15 with the j-v contests set for 5:45 p.m.
