The Red Wings’ final practice before tomorrow night’s season opener at St. Louis is set for noon today at Joe Louis Arena, where the session is open to the public, free of charge. Defenseman Jakub Kindl and forward Mikael Samuelsson are listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Blues  because of groin injuries. Head coach Mike Babcock says forward Darren Helm won't play because of a back injury. Babcock also said that goalie Joey MacDonald continues to rehabilitate his back and expects to play at some point this season.

In minor league hockey, in the ECHL, the Kalamazoo Wings skate tonight at Evansville and then host Ft. Wayne tomorrow night.

In college hockey, it’s a home-n-home series for Western Michigan and Bowling Green with the Broncos playing tonight in Ohio before Saturday’s game in Kalamazoo. Michigan plays this weekend at Lake Superior State while Michigan State is home against Ferris State tonight and then the two teams meet tomorrow night in Big Rapids.
