COLDWATER, MI WTVB) - It’s Martin Luther King, Jr. day, the time set aside to honor the birth of the late civil rights leader. The national holiday means state and federal offices are closed and so is the stock market and there’s no mail delivery. The Branch County courthouse is closed and many schools have no classes today, including Coldwater, Bronson, and Union City, where it’s a Professional Development Day for teachers. Also no classes today in Quincy where it’s a records day for teachers.
Also today, President Barack Obama will be inaugurated for a second term in a public ceremony at the U.S. Capitol. It’s a ceremonial event as the President has actually already been formally sworn-in. U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts did the honors during a brief ceremony in the White House yesterday.
