COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, just one event on the schedule, and in gymnastics, Coldwater traveled to Tecumseh for a conference match and the visiting Lady Cardinals defeated the Trojans 120.775 to 118.825.
It was the 6th team qualifier for Coldwater, two more than the required 4 qualifier scores needed to advance to the Regionals in March. The biggest highlights of the night in the Coldwater victory came on the uneven bars, traditionally the squad’s weak spot. They posted their highest team score of the season of 29.8, led by a personal best from senior Makayla Woodman and season bests from senior Kylie Dudek and junior Becca Harmon. Dudek earned a first place finish with her score of 9.3. Harmon collected her second qualifier for the season at 7.0 which placed 3rd, while Woodman was just shy of a qualifier at 6.7. Amanda Daoud collected her 2nd qualifier at 6.8.
The vault team event was a solid 31.75 for Coldwater with individual qualifiers from Amanda Daoud, Harmon and Jenny Daoud. Amanda Daoud placed first in the event at 8.2 while Harmon and Jenny Daoud tied for 4th. For Harmon, her vault appearance secured her place at the regionals.
In the floor routine, Amanda Daoud posted her fourth and final qualifier at 7.9 and placed third overall. In the final event, the balance beam, Kylie Dudek led the way with an 8.6 and Amanda Daoud placed 4th. Both gymnasts earned individual qualifiers and for Daoud it was her third.
In the all-around competition, freshman Amanda Daoud finished second with her score of 30.35, just five-hundredths of a point behind the winner from Tecumseh. Jenny Daoud finished 5th followed by Brianne Hodge’s 6th place finish. The meet win improved Coldwater’s conference record to 2-and-3. Their next action is Saturday at the Kenowa Hills Invitational.
