COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, in wrestling, Coldwater scored a SMAC East victory at home over Sturgis on Senior/Parents night with the Cardinals beating the Trojans 42-to-31.
Also, Quincy hosted Reading and Bronson for a double dual meet. In the Big Eight matchup, Quincy lost to Reading 41-to-35 and then Bronson beat Quincy 57-to-15. Bronson this week is ranked seventh in the state in Division Four.
Quincy’s record on the season slips to 11-and-12 and 3-and-3 in league action. Also in the Big 8 last night, Union City lost at home to Jonesville 43-to-34. The host Chargers had pin wins posted by Matt Vaccaro, Tyler Howard and Branson Turley. Union City’s conference record drops to 2-and-4. On tonight’s high school schedule, There Is varsity Big Eight girl’s basketball with Quincy at home against Concord while Union City is at Reading.
Also in girl’s hoops, Tekonsha hosts Camden Frontier. And tonight’s reserve basketball action includes Coldwater vs. Harper Creek with the boy’s games in Coldwater while the girls play at Harper Creek. The freshman games tip-off at 4:15 with the j-v contests scheduled for 5:45.

In middle school sports, in girl’s basketball, Coldwater opened its season last night including the eighth grade “A” team losing 34-to-10 at Harper Creek with 6 points and 6 steals for Megan Lippert along with 5 rebounds for Allison Butler. Also, in Coldwater, the seventh grade “B” team fell to Harper Creek 21-to-18 with four points apiece for Kaci White, Ashley Mobley, Madysen Fisher and Nadia Kiersey.
Also last night, Bronson picked up a pair of wins at White Pigeon. They took the eighth grade game 32-to-20 with 7 points and 8 rebounds for Karly Showalter while Jill Pyles added 6 points and 8 rebounds. And Bronson won the seventh grade contest 43-to-3 with 18 points for Kiana
