Second-ranked Michigan plays visiting Purdue tonight at Crisler Center and the host Wolverines are in position to possibly take over the top spot in the nation after number-one Duke was blown out last night at 25th-ranked Miami 90-to-63. If 17-and-1 Michigan can get by the Boilermakers tonight and avoid an upset Saturday night at Illinois, the number one ranking could follow when the new polls come out next week.
Last night in the Big Ten, number-7 Indiana routed Penn State 72-to-49 in Bloomington while 12th ranked Minnesota lost 55-to-48 at Northwestern.
And in Mid-American Conference play last night in Kalamazoo, Western Michigan won its third straight with a 63-to-59 victory over Eastern Michigan. Also, Central Michigan lost at home 74-to-61 to Northern Illinois.
