Bronson Places Second In Battle Ceek Central Wrestling Tournament

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, Coldwater, Bronson, and Union City competed Saturday along with a dozen other schools at Battle Creek Central in the Bill Evans Memorial Tournament. Bronson barely missed out on bringing home the title, finishing second by one point to Battle Creek Lakeview. Coldwater finished in seventh place with Union City 12th. Bronson had 14 wrestlers place by finishing eighth or better with three champions in Hunter Machus, Wes Disbro, and Joe Albarran. Machus was the tournament’s MVP in the 103-to-140 pound weight division. Earning runner up medals for the Vikings were Jake Littlefield, Kahle Scheenks, Humberto Martinez, Brandon Losinski, and Dan Erwin. Winning a third place medal was Jukoda Sexton. Jordan Jimenez had a fourth place finish. Matt Cosby and Skylar Riker placed seventh, and Caleb Albarran had an eighth place finish.

Leading Coldwater with a third place showing was Kegan Brown. Fourth place finishes were earned by Mohammed Aljabaly and Nooh Aljabaly. Finishing fifth were Randy Brown, Josh Powers, and Kelly Anzaldua, and Chris Vandenhout had a sixth place finish. And placing for Union City were Tyler Howard and Jared Shepard with third place medals, Taylor Howard with a fifth place finish, and placing eighth were Tristan Banks and Davis Fettes.  Also in wrestling on Saturday, Quincy took second place at the Niles Brandywine Super Six tournament with a 4-and-1 record on the day, losing only to meet champion Brandywine. Going undefeated for the Orioles were Luke Wiser and Nate Smith while going 4-and-1 were Tyler Massey, Dalton Hard, Colin Johnson and Clay McKinley. Quincy’s record on the season is 15-and-13. And in gymnastics, Coldwater finished eighth out of 10 schools Saturday at the Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills Invitational. Kylie Dudek took second place in the all-around category and finished in first place on the uneven bars.

On tonight’s high school schedule, there’s girls basketball with Union City at Centreville and Tekonsha at Climax-Scotts.
