DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Centers for Disease Control says people in five states have been sickened by salmonella linked to the recall last week of 1,000 pounds of ground beef made in the Detroit area.
About 16 people, most of them in Michigan, have gotten sick from eating raw meat, which Public Health spokeswoman Melaney Arnold says is never a good idea.
Two people in Illinois have been hospitalized due to the outbreak. There are also cases being reported in Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the outbreak is related to the recall of more than one thousand pounds of ground beef from Jouni Meats and Gab Halal Foods, both based in Michigan.
