At long last, your copy of Tina Fey's Bossypants will now have a worthy companion to reside beside it on your bookshelf.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Parks and Recreation star/slam dunk Golden Globes co-host/all-around fantastic lady Amy Poehler has signed a deal with It Books to pen her first book, which will be released in 2014. The book (which probably won't be titled Don't Just Sit There, Bone Something, but if anyone could get away with that, it's Poehler) will be ""an illustrated, nonlinear diary full of humor and honesty and brimming with true stories, fictional anecdotes and life lessons." In other words, the greatest piece of literature of our time. Okay, I'm kidding... sort of.
But for any fan of Poehler's, this will be a damn delight. The Emmy-nominated actress and Upright Citizens Brigade alum knows funny (see: Parks and Rec, Saturday Night Live, Wet Hot American Summer, Mean Girls, Arrested Development, Baby Mama) and the mother of two is as sharp, sensitive, and smart (see: her web series ""Ask Amy"") as she is downright hilarious.
There is still a bit of time until the 41-year-old's book enters our lives and makes everything better, but luckily we've got plenty of Poehler to tide us over until then, including more Parks and Rec and Poehler's upcoming big screen efforts A.C.O.D. and You Are Here. But if you get a hankering to read something in the meantime, here are some other funny lady reads definitely worth checking out:
- Fey's Bossypants is a master class in humor and storytelling, of course. - Poehler's ""daughter"" Lena Dunham's much talked-about upcoming book has no release date yet, but it's sure to hit shelves before Poehler's.- Fellow SNL alum Rachel Dratch's hilarious and personal Girl Walks Into A Bar.- Fellow primetime funny lady Mindy Kaling's memoir Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? - Even if you aren't a fan of her talk show, Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler is still a deliriously funny and R-rated memoir. - The Daily Show's great Samantha Bee's I Know I Am, But What Are You? has you laughing before you even open it, with a photo of her dressed as a bee on the cover. - Speaking of, Sarah Silverman's cover is almost as hilarious as the title itself: The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee.- Co-written with her comedy partner Rich Blomquist, 30 Rock's Kristen Schaal's Sexy Book of Sexy Sex is every bit as wonderfully weird as you'd expect from her.- There is nobody more off-the-walls bonkers wonderful than Amy Sedaris and we wouldn't want it any other way. Her book I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence is not only a read as hilariously on-par as the work of her brother David's, but actually an incredible useful guide for hosting parties and making crafts. - Cindy Guidry's The Last Single Woman In America is everything Sex and the City should have been. Read and learn, Carrie Bradshaw and Bradshaw wannabes.
