BRONSON, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, it was Bronson at Battle Creek St. Philip in boys and girls basketball with a split as Bronson won the girls game while St. Philip defeated the Vikings in the boys contest. The Bronson girls outscored the Tigers in the second quarter 15-to-6 to go up 27-16 at the half and then went on to beat St. Philip 51-to-33. Skyler Sobeski had a game-high 16 points for Bronson, which improved to 10-and-5. In the boy’s action, the game was tied at 11 apiece at the end of the first quarter before the Tigers beat Bronson 66-to-47. Eric Toledo had 7 points and 11 rebounds and Robert O’Rourke also had 7 points for the Vikings, who slip to 2-and-12.
Last night in wrestling, Bronson cruised to a 69-to-3 victory at home over Mendon, winning 13 of the 14 matches. The victory validated the Vikings ranking this week as number seven in the state in the Division Four poll.
In the Big Eight Conference, Union City lost at Reading 45-to-29. Earning pins for Union City were Tristan Banks, Tyler Howard, and Davis Fettes. Other winners for the Chargers included Ben Bart, Jared Shepard, and Taylor Howard. Union City’s league record is now 2-and-5. And Quincy dropped a 36-to-28 match at home against Homer. Winners for the host Orioles included Jacob Massey, Dalton Hard and Nate Smith.
On tonight’s high school schedule, in girls basketball, it’s Quincy at Reading while Union City hosts Concord. In reserve hoops, the Coldwater vs. Kalamazoo Loy Norrix with the boys and girls freshman and junior varsity basketball games have been cancelled for Thursday, due to no school for the Kalamazoo Public School District.
Tonight in gymnastics, Coldwater has a home meet against Adrian.

Yesterday, in middle school sports, in girls basketball, the Coldwater seventh grade “A” team was a winner at home over Marshall 28-to-23 with 9 points for Isabella Foley. The 7th grade "B" team lost to Marshall 19-10. Ashely Mobley and Nadia Kiersey each had 3 points. The Coldwater eighth grade "A" team lost at Marshall 40-15. Megan Lippert had 7 poins with 9 rebounds for Hannah Parrish. In the “B” game at Marshall, the Redhawks beat Coldwater 12-to-8 with 11 rebounds for Gracen Yates. Also, Bronson swept a pair of games at home over Battle Creek St. Philip. The Lady Vikings won the eighth grade game 28-to-25 with 12 points for Jill Pyles and 9 rebounds for Karly Showalter. And Bronson won the 7th grade game 28-to-13 with 10 points for Payton Robinson.
