DETROIT (WKZO) -- Former Highalnd Park emergency manager Arthur Blackwell the second has learned when he will go to trial on embezzlement charges. A Wayne County Circuit Court judge said the trial will begin May 6th.
Blackwell is accused of inappropriately paying himself over 260-thousand-dollars between 2005 and 2009. He was appointed as emergency financial manager in 2005 for a salary of one-dollar for the first year, but testified during a civil trial that he got a verbal agreement from then Governor Jennifer Granholm to change the contract.
The case was dismissed by a Wayne County judge in 2011, but an appeals court later overturned the ruling. Last month, the state Supreme Court refused to hear Blackwell's challenge of the appeals court decision.
