Number one Michigan is the first team in the nation this season to reach 20 wins as the top-ranked Wolverines last night knocked off visiting Northwestern 68-to-46 at Crisler Center. It was Michigan’s first game as the top school in the AP poll since November 1992. Trey Burke scored 18 points with eight assists for the Wolverines.
Michigan, which had only 2 turnovers on the night, continued the best start in school history, improving to 20-and-1 and 7-and-1 in the Big Ten. It sets the stage for the Wolverines’ Saturday night showdown at third-ranked Indiana, which stayed tied at the top of the conference with their 97-to-60 blowout victory last night at Purdue.
Also last night, a Mid-American Conference road win for Western Michigan as the Broncos made it 5 straight victories by beating Miami, Ohio 72-to-68. Tonight’s schedule includes #13 Michigan State at home against Illinois.
