4th of July drunk driving campaign underway, State Police post in Coldwater participating

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Michigan State Police troopers have been joined by 156 other law enforcement agencies across the state for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" Fourth of July holiday campaign that continues through Sunday.  The Michigan Office of Highway Safety and the federal government are paying for the additional patrols.  Police and Sheriff's departments in 26 counties will have more patrol cars on the road specifically looking for drunk drivers.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department isn’t included in part because of the rolled back road patrol services with budget cuts and deputy layoffs, but Coldwater State Police are busy watching for drunk drivers. And as it turns out, two women were arrested Monday by Coldwater City Police for suspicion of driving under the influence and a man was booked at the Branch County jail by Union City Police on an OUI charge.

There were no alcohol related deaths on Michigan roads during the July 4th holiday last year, but alcohol related accidents rise sharply in July and August.
