LANSING (WKZO) -- Filing for unemployment benefits is a free service from the state of Michigan, and officials have put out a warning about businesses charging fees to file for benefits. Acting Unemployment Insurance Agency director Shaun Thomas says the UIA is the only agency which determines eligibility for jobless benefits. Thomas adds companies that charge a fee are not affiliated with the state, and might be sharing personal information that could put "your privacy and the confidentiality of your claim at risk."
