Tigers shutout Indians in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OHIO (WTVB) - The Tigers cruised to a 7-to-0 win last night over the Indians in the opener of a 4-game series at Cleveland. Rick Porcello tossed 7-innings of five-hit ball for Detroit with six strikeouts as the first place Tigers padded their lead in the American League Central over the second place Tribe to 2-and-a-half games. It was Detroit’s fourth win in-a-row and their sixth straight over the Indians. Porcello improved to 5-and-6 as Victor Martinez backed him with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate while driving in two. Jhonny Peralta also drove in a pair with a double and number nine hitter Ramon Santiago had two rbi’s with a two out single in the second inning to give the Tigers the early edge. Cleveland ace Justin Masterson allowed six runs in four-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 10-and-7. This afternoon in Cleveland, Anibal Sanchez returns to the rotation for Detroit, getting the start after recovering from a shoulder strain that put him on the disabled list on June 17th. The White Sox fell to the Rays 8-to-3 last night at Tampa Bay while the Cubs were no match for the team with the best record in the majors as Pittsburgh posted a 6-to-2 victory Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
