COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County summer league baseball, the 3 day Sandy Koufax AABC State Tournament wrapped up yesterday in Coldwater with the host Coldwater Redbirds American Pool team finishing in second place to advance to the regional tournament later this month in Rockford, Illinois. Ten teams competed in the Michigan tournament including two Coldwater squads along with Bronson and Union City.
In yesterday’s championship round at Lowe Field, Coldwater opened with an 8-to-7 win over the JTB Tigers. Cam Miller went 3-for-4 with two rbi’s. Caleb Letendre had two hits with 2 walks and an rbi and Colin Torrey also had two hits and an rbi. Sam DeMeester was the winning pitcher. In the title game, Coldwater and the Rochester Rockies were tied at 4-4 after seven innings and the Rockies ended up winning 8-to-4 in eight innings. Connor Covert had a solo homer and a single, Bryce Barringer had 2 hits including a double with an rbi and Eric Bach had two singles while Colin Torrey took the loss for the Redbirds.
The Coldwater National pool team dropped a pair of games on Saturday. In their first game, they lost 8-to-0 to the JBT Tigers. Lucas Santure pitched five innings and had 4 strikeouts. The Redbirds then fell 8-to-6 to Sturgis. Mitchell Duda tossed a complete game in suffering the defeat. Joey Severn had a triple and a double and scored 3 runs while Brady Snow had a single and a double. The Coldwater National squad opened play on Friday with losses to Bronson and the Michigan Young Guns.
The Rockford Regional tournament starts on July 17th.
