LANSING, MI (WTVB) - The Red Cross has issued an emergency appeal for blood donors. Summer is always a slow time for donations because students are out of school and they account for about 20% of their donations. Great Lakes Chapter Spokesman Todd Kulman in Lansing says this June, donations dipped even lower than expected with fifty thousand fewer donors reported by the American Red Cross. He says the need doesn’t decrease, if anything it increases in the summer with a lot more people travelling on the roads, meaning more accidents and often patients requiring life-saving blood. They say the need for blood never takes a vacation.
Recruitment of donors is underway now for the blood drive coming up this month at the St. Mary’s school gym in Bronson on Tuesday July 23rd, sponsored by the Bronson Rotary Club.
