Schuette applauds verdict against Apple

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schutte

LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Attorney Bill Schuette and the attorneys general of 30 other states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico are celebrating a court win over Apple Incorporated on charges of price fixing.

A federal judge in New York ruled that Apple played a central role in the price fixing of electronic books.  Schuette says Michigan earlier settled with five publishers accused of being part of the price fixing scheme.

Evidence showed the publishers and Apple conspired to raise the price of New York Times best selling books from $9.99 to $12.99 and $14.99.  Monetary damages against Apple will be determined in later court proceedings.
