COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Budget cuts this year have trimmed the staff at Branch County Animal Control to a one man band with the solo act belonging to long time County Animal Control Officer Ernie Baker. It’s been the on-going work of a number of volunteer animal rights groups in the County that has allowed their mission of more adoptions and fewer kills to be carried on.
County Commissioner Dale Swift of Bronson recognized those groups at this week’s County Commission meeting when he placed on the record the 2012 Annual Animal Control Department Report. It showed the Department handled 271 animals last year with 174 adopted, 95 reclaimed and euthanized, only four, leaving a euthanasia rate of just one percent. Swift called that outstanding.
