Piston free agent power forward Jason Maxiell is moving on to Orlando with the Magic announcing Thursday that he’s agreed to a two year contract worth 5-million dollars. Maxiell’s 8-year career in the league started with Detroit drafting him as a late first round pick in 2005.
Meanwhile, the NBA Board of Governors approved five rules changes on Thursday, including three tweaks to instant replay for the upcoming 2013-14 season. Among the new rules is one that will allow officials to review a block or charge play to determine whether the defender was inside or outside the restricted area. The refs will also be able to assess the appropriate penalties of any unsportsmanlike and unnecessary acts that are observed during the instant replay reviews.
