The Tiger’s offense tanked last night to begin the second half of the season after the All-Star break with Detroit getting just two singles in a 1-to-0 loss at Kansas City. Ervin Santana and two Royal’s relievers combined for the victory that snapped Kansas City’s five game losing streak. The Tigers had a major league leading .281 team batting average entering Friday night’s action but it didn’t stop them from being shut out for the seventh time this year. Anibal Sanchez was the tough luck loser for Detroit, giving up just the first inning run while lasting six frames and surrendering 4 of Kansas City’s five hits. Sanchez slips to 7-and-7. The first place Tigers lead in the American League Central stayed at a game-and-a-half over the Indians, who lost at Minnesota. Justin Verlander gets the start for Detroit tonight in game 2 of the 3-game series with the Royals.
The White Sox lost 6-to-4 last night at Atlanta while the Cubs were winners at Colorado, beating the Rockies 3-to-1.
