The Big Ten pre-season buzz will heat up this week in the Windy City with the annual Big Ten media days in Chicago tomorrow and Thursday. In advance of the gathering, a poll of 26 Big Ten writers released Monday had Ohio State the clear pick to win the conference title with Michigan edging Nebraska for the top spot in the Legends Division. Michigan State earned the nod for third place in the Legends while getting four first place votes. Next year, the Leaders and Legends divisions disappear as the Big Ten goes to East and West Divisions for 2014 following the addition of Rutgers and Maryland to expand the league to 14 teams.
Ohio State has suspended their top running back, senior Carlos Hyde. The school announced Monday afternoon that Hyde has been suspended from all football team activities pending the outcome of the student code of conduct and criminal investigations. A Columbus newspaper reported Hyde was named as a person of interest in a weekend assault against a female at a bar in Columbus.
