COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Branch County’s latest jobless rate comes in at 9.2%. So halfway through 2013, the unemployment figure is right where it started to begin the year. The June rate is up from 8.4% in May. Last month’s figure is also higher than a year ago in June when it was 8.7%. But Branch County has plenty of company. The State said Thursday that seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates increased in all of Michigan's 17 major labor market areas in June. Employment and workforce levels expanded in most regions last month with the continuation of summer and seasonal hiring.
Michael Williams, acting director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information & Strategic Initiatives reported that due to the large influx of job seekers, June jobless rates typically increase.
