COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - it’s now official. Coldwater will be joining a new athletic conference with plans for competition to begin a year from now for the 2014-2015 school year. Coldwater Athletic Director Dianne VandenHout revealed yesterday that all of the school systems interested in the formation of the league have approved being part of the new conference. Leaving the Big 16 Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference, or SMAC, along with Coldwater will be Harper Creek and Marshall. The other schools ready to make up the new conference are Pennfield, Jackson Lumen Christi, Parma Western, Charlotte, and Jackson Northwest. A league name has not been totally agreed upon but many of the athletic directors appear to be leaning toward the possibility of calling it the "Interstate 8 Conference”.
