The Detroit Lions yesterday had their first open public practice of this summer’s pre-season training camp in Allen Park, where there’s plenty of competition for a number of positions. It’s something Detroit head coach Jim Schwartz hopes will bring out the best in the team as the roster eventually takes shape. Offensive guard Leroy Harris, who tore his ACL last season, was cleared yesterday to return from the physically unable to perform list.
Also on day four of training camp, cornerback Ron Bartell missed practice because of a shoulder injury, while cornerback Chris Greenwood suffered a hamstring injury. Safety Louis Delmas had a scheduled day off.
The Lions begin their exhibition schedule with a home game August 9th against the Jets.
