COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Wednesday’s predicted severe weather event which whipped up strong thunderstorms in parts of Southwest Michigan and elsewhere in the Midwest stayed away from Branch County, where a severe thunderstorm watch, which was issued at 5 p.m. Wednesday, expired quietly just before two am Thursday. There was one report from a trained spotter of one inch hail in Coldwater with a thunderstorm that passed through the county around 8:30 pm Tuesday night.
Nearly 25,000 Consumers Energy customers in the region lost power last night with none in Branch County, according to the utility’s interactive outage map. Van Buren County reported the most outages with trees and power lines down. Barry and Allegan counties were both under a tornado warning late last night.
