COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Old Glory will get some extra special treatment today, especially in Coldwater, which for years has prided itself as “The Flag City”. Today is Flag Day 2013, a holiday officially established in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson. Some historians say the longest-running Flag Day parade started even before that in about 1909 in Fairfield, Washington.
Among the events celebrating Old Glory today is the golden anniversary of Coldwater’s Flag Day luncheon. The 50th annual gathering takes place at noon at the First Baptist Church in Coldwater with Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer they keynote speaker.
