The Tigers and the White Sox had the day off Thursday while the Cubs avoided a 4-game sweep by the Reds with a 6-to-5 win over Cincinnati in 14 innings yesterday afternoon, snapping their 12-game losing streak while playing the Reds at Wrigley Field. Detroit tonight sends Rick Porcello to the mound as they open a 3-game series at Minnesota.

The Tigers haven’t made any bullpen moves yet after closer Jose Valverde’s latest meltdown on Wednesday when he gave up a game tying 2-run, 2-out homer in the bottom of ninth at Kansas City where the Royals went on to win 3-to-2 in ten innings.

Detroit still leads the American League Central by 4-and-a-half games over the Indians with the Royals five games back.
