HS Sports: Baseball, Softball, Girls Soccer, Boys Golf Finals wrap up 2012-13 schedule

UNDATED (WTVB) - It’s going to be a busy Saturday across the state to wrap up the 2012-13 spring high school sports schedule. The Michigan High School Athletic Association Baseball and Softball Finals take place today at Battle Creek’s Bailey Park. In yesterday’s Semifinals, Milan, the team that edged Coldwater 1-0 in the Division 2 Baseball Quarterfinals on Tuesday, were themselves edged by Richmond by a 3-2 score. Meanwhile, the Dundee Vikings will be going for their first-ever softball state title, following up their 2-1 win over Bronson Tuesday in the Division 3 Quarterfinals by beating Allen Park Cabrini 11-6; it’s Dundee vs. Unionville-Sebawaing today in the Division 3 final. Mattawan, coached by former Coldwater standout Alicia Haberkorn Smith, made it to the Division 1 Softball championship game for the third consecutive year by rallying to beat Romeo 3-2; they’ll take on Bay City Western today for the title.

The MHSAA Girls Soccer Finals are today as well, and SMAC East champion Gull Lake will take on Birmingham Marian this afternoon at Williamston for the Division 2 title.

The MHSAA Lower Peninsula Boys Golf Finals wrap up today. Yesterday in the first day of the Division 1 Finals at MSU’s Forest Akers West, top-ranked Battle Creek Lakeview took the first-round lead with a team score of 299, three ahead of second-place Plymouth. In Division 2 at the Meadows at Grand Valley State, Marshall finds themselves in the hunt with their third-place round of 322, seven back of first-round leader Grand Rapids Christian and a stroke behind East Lansing. Gull Lake and Harper Creek are in 12th and 13th place, respectively.
