Coldwater School Board hires 4 new teachers, agrees to move forward on new athletic league

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - The Coldwater Board of Education last night approved the hiring of four new teachers as well as a lead preschool caregiver for the district’s Kinder Learning Academy. The lead caregiver post for the preschool program at the Lincoln Language Learning Center and Early Childhood Center goes to Lindsey Harding.  The new teachers are Becky Grzegorski , a K-12 ESL instructor at the Language Learning Center, Heather Cahill, 4th Grade Teacher at Lakeland Elementary, and Shalen King and Brittany Watters, 1st Grade teachers at Max Larsen Elementary.

In other business, the school board last night approved the lease and operating agreement with the City of Coldwater for the Robert L. Browne Aquatic Center, a proposal the City Council adopted at its May 28th meeting. And the Board agreed to move forward this coming school year to develop and join a new athletic league that would begin competition in the 2014-15 school year. Schools that would make up the new league include, from the SMAC, Coldwater, Marshall, and Harper Creek. Also, Pennfield, from the Kalamazoo Valley Association, as well as Charlotte, Jackson Northwest, Jackson Lumen Christi, and Parma Western, from Capital Area Activities Conference. Sturgis is said to be expressing an interest, but is still considering all options.

The Coldwater School Board meeting Monday night also had a moment of silence at the beginning of the session for recently retired teacher Mary Kinnee, who lost her battle with cancer on Sunday.
