The Tigers lost 5-to-2 to Baltimore last night at Comerica Park as Justin Verlander suffered his first career defeat against the Orioles. Detroit will play the rubber game of the 3-game set with the O’s this afternoon and then tomorrow night, the Tigers open a 4-game series at home against the Red Sox. Verlander had been 8-and-0 lifetime against Baltimore but last night he lasted just 5 innings after J.J. Hardy smacked a 2-run homer in the fourth and Adam Jones added a 3-run shot in the fifth for a 5-to-0 lead. The defeat dropped Verlander’s record to 8-and-5 and cut the Tiger’s lead in the American League Central to 4-and-a-half games over the Indians.
The last place White Sox lost again, falling 7-to-5 last night at Minnesota while the Cubs beat the Cardinals 4-to-2 in St. Louis.
