COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - A work session for committees of the Branch County Board of Commissioners is on tap for today and the gathering might provide reaction from officials to the recent period of crowded conditions at the County Jail. A dozen more people were booked into the lockup Wednesday, bringing the inmate population to 153. That makes it five straight days the number of prisoners surpassed the rated jail capacity, which is 142. Two more days in-a-row over that number and an automatic overcrowding emergency would take effect requiring the early release of several prisoners.
Today’s work session agenda includes an update on planned furlough days for county employees and a report on the county’s 2012 audit .
