Three Bronson softball players named to All State First Team

BRONSON, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, three members of this year’s Bronson state quarterfinal softball team have been selected to the Division 3 All-State First team by the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association. Earning the honors were outfielder Kassidy Bystry, infielder Lauren Cary, and pitcher Skyler Sobeski. And in baseball, Quincy catcher Jimmy Strock was named to the Baseball Coaches Association Division 3 All-State second team.

It appears another Branch County high school will be joining a new athletic league that would begin competition the year after next in the 2014-2015 school year. Earlier this week, the Coldwater School Board gave the green light for CHS to leave the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference and now Bronson is set to exit the St. Joe Valley Conference. The South Bend Tribune has reported that Bronson and nine other school systems have agreed to the formation of a new league for Southwest Michigan that besides Bronson would include Centreville, Mendon, and White Pigeon, along with Cassopolis, Buchanan, Bridgman, Niles Brandywine, Lake Michigan Catholic and New Buffalo.

There remain some coaching vacancies at area schools for the coming year. The Coldwater School District has extended the application deadline for the vacant junior varsity boys and girls soccer positions. There are also positings on the school website for the junior varsity girls tennis coach and a middle school boys basketball coach.
