The Tigers pulled out a series clinching win yesterday by beating Boston 7-to-5 at Comerica Park. Detroit took 3 out of 4 from the Red Sox to return to ten games over .500 and also increased their lead in the American League Central to 4 games over the second place Indians, who lost to the Twins. Prince Fielder drove in three runs Sunday with two hits for the Tigers while Austin Jackson was 2-for-2 with three walks and 3 runs scored. Detroit ace Justin Verlander had another shaky start and had to be bailed out by the bullpen after allowing four runs in five frames with a no decision. Joaquin Benoit picked up the win in relief.
The Tigers take the day off today before hosting the Los Angeles Angels tomorrow night to open a 3-game series that will wrap up the ten game home stand.
The White Sox lost 7-to-6 yesterday at Kansas City while the Cubs pounded the Astros 14-to-6 at Wrigley Field.
