MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) - Chris Wahmhoff had an eventful 35th birthday yesterday. He spent the first part inside the newly constructed 6-b Enbridge oil pipeline near Marshall, a short time in the hospital and the rest in jail. He could spend part of today in court, being formally charged. Law enforcement officials say he could face not only local but federal charges for the stunt.
Enbridge spokesman Jason Manshum says they are all for open dialog, but they just want to make sure they voice their concerns in a safe and efficient manner and unfortunately, Manshum says that’s not what happened Monday. Wahmhoff is an organizer for Occupy Kalamazoo who was among those arrested last year for camping in Bronson Park. The protestors fear a repeat of the huge oil-spill three years ago that Enbridge is still paying to clean up.
Manshum says Enbridge is replacing the pipeline with a new and safer one to prevent another spill.
