MASON COUNTY (WKZO) -- Investigators have wrapped up two days of searching the woods near Ludington, trying to narrow down the area where the body of Baby Kate may be buried, by identifying specific and rare plants.
Little Katherine Phillips disappeared two years ago when her dad drove off with her.
Plant seeds and fibers removed from shoes and clothes of Sean Phillps at the end of that day, were analyzed and identified and served as clues to where the child might be.
This weekend dozens of volunteer plant experts joined police in a search for those plant species in the wild.
Investigators say the results have greatly narrowed down the area where the body may have been buried, exceeding their expectations.
