DETROIT (WKZO) -- Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has declared a financial emergency in the City of Detroit and will appoint an Emergency Financial Manager to oversee finances.
The governor says it is time to solve the problems in Detroit and stop blaming groups or individuals for the financial crisis. Snyder says he operates on "relentless positive action" and wants that attitude to be adopted by Detroit officials
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and the members of the Detroit City Council did not attend Friday's announcement. They have the right to appeal the appointment of an E.M. in the next ten days.
Snyder says he has a top candidate in mind, but would not reveal their name.
