Mark Martin yesterday captured the pole for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Phoenix International Raceway. The 54-year-old Martin, coming off a third place finish at the Daytona 500, edged out Kasey Kahne for the top spot. Daytona winner Jimmie Johnson qualified third, followed by Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon.
