The Red Wings were in position yesterday to stop the Blackhawks historic start to the season, but in the end, Chicago was able to keep the streak intact with a 2-to-1 shootout victory at Joe Louis Arena.
The Blackhawks stretched their NHL-record season-opening point streak to 22 games while improving their record to 19-0-and-3. Detroit was ahead 1-to-0 until Patrick Kane scored the tying goal with 2:02 remaining in regulation and supplied the winner in the shootout.
The Red Wings have dropped five straight to Chicago, all by one goal. Tomorrow night, Detroit hosts Colorado.
Yesterday in minor league hockey, in the ECHL, the Kalamazoo Wings lost 6-to-4 at Wheeling.
