Steuben County, IN (WTVB) - A snowmobile went through the ice last night at a lake just south of Branch County and the Michigan border in Steuben County, Indiana west of Pokagon State Park. Authorities say a 46-year old Ft. Wayne man had to be treated at Parkview Hospital for hypothermia following the incident around 6:30 p.m. at Jimmerson Lake.
Matthew Waggoner was on his snowmobile on the north side of the lake with two other friends and driving on the ice along the shore trying to locate a safe area to navigate when the machine went in the drink. His companions were able to use a rope to rescue Waggoner, pulling him onto the ice and later to shore by emergency personnel.
By the way, the winter storm system that pretty much skipped around Branch County hit areas to the south hard, like Ft. Wayne, with 10-and-a-half inches of snow.
