No official determination yet, but electrical issue suspected in Longstreet Furniture fire

Longstreet Furniture, Coldwater after March 5, 2013 fire

QUINCY, MI (WTVB) - Rumors are rampant about what sparked this week’s massive 7 alarm fire in Branch County that heavily damaged Longstreet Furniture and Quincy Fire Chief Kurt Barve has decided to set the record straight since they now believe they know how the early Tuesday morning blaze got started. Barve tells us a State Police Fire investigator made a second examination of the scene today at the business on U.S. 12 located between Coldwater and Quincy and it was basically, although not proven 100%, that it got going in an attic area probably tied to an electrical issue they may have had in the building due to a leak in the roof. Barve says officially, at this point, it will go in the books as undetermined due to the extensive damage in that part of the structure although all signs point to the origin of the fire as somewhere high up in the store versus down low.

There were no injuries as more than 5 dozen firefighters were on the job and it took nearly 5 hours to totally put out the fire with almost 200,000 gallons of water used to extinguish the blaze.
