LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Hundreds of thousands of Michigan's uninsured residents are one step closer to getting healthcare coverage. On Thursday, federal regulators signed off on an exchange through which thousands of the state's one-point-two-million uninsured residents could buy insurance as soon as the fall.

Governor Rick Snyder received a letter earlier this week from the U.S. Health and Human Services Department congratulating him on the state's approval. The letter comes a week after state legislators agreed to accept 31-million dollars in federal money to set up a web-based portal to review and buy coverage plans
