QUINCY, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, the county’s last team standing in March Magic as the MHSAA boys and girls basketball tournaments play on hopes to pull off the upset tonight on its home floor.
It’s a 7:30 tip off in the title game of the Quincy Class-C boy’s district as the Orioles go up against the Schoolcraft Eagles. Quincy has an 11-and-11 record after their two district wins this week.
The Orioles cruised past Centreville on Monday before barely getting by cross county rival Bronson Wednesday night on a basket in the final seconds to win 46-44. Schoolcraft is 20-and-2. The Eagles were almost one and done as they began the second season by escaping with a 62-to-61 decision over Union City in the quarterfinals on Monday. Then on Wednesday in the semi-finals, Schoolcraft pulled away in the second half for a 16-point victory over Reading. The winner of the Quincy District advances to next week’s Constantine Class-C Regional.
Elsewhere tonight, it’s Tekonsha vs. Bellevue in the championship game of the Jackson Christian Class D District.
In girl’s basketball, the second week of their state tournament wrapped up last night including the championship game of the Bronson Class-C Regional where undefeated Niles Brandywine eliminated Hartford 56-to-43. Also, Marshall is headed to the Sweet 16 after the Redhawks captured the title of the Coloma Class B Regional with a 50-to-49 win over Stevensville Lakeshore.
The Athens Indians are headed to the quarterfinals after beating Hillsdale Academy 68-to-42 for the championship of the Mendon Class-D Regional. March Magic brings a conclusion to the Winter Sports season while tryouts and practice in Michigan for all Spring sports activities start up on Monday for baseball, softball, girls soccer, track & field, boys golf and girls tennis.
