Senate candidates clamoring for position

Carl Levin
Carl Levin

LANSING (WKZO) -- The next U.S. Senate election in Michigan is over a year away, and already candidates are clamoring for position to succeed the retiring Carl Levin.  Grand Rapids Congressman Justin Amash took to Twitter to make his case, though the registration on AmashForSenate.com expired last week.

Congressman Gary Peters is interested in running for the Democratic nomination, while Scott Romney, the older brother of 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, is also reportedly considering running.  Former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land may be considering a run, as well.

Levin has held the seat since his election in 1978, and announced last week he will not seek another term.
