DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - Defense attorney Jim Thomas says he will appeal former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's conviction in his federal corruption trial.  Monday, a jury found Kilpatrick guilty of 24 charges, including racketeering.  The conviction could be challenged based on several pretrial rulings, including a judge's denial of Kilpatrick's request to fire Thomas as his attorney the day before trial began.  Contractor Bobby Ferguson was also convicted of nine counts and Kilpatrick's father, Bernard Kilpatrick was convicted of one tax count.   Both Kwame Kilpatrick and Bobby Ferguson were denied bond and were taken into federal custody.
