Lion’s veteran offensive tackle Jeff Backus is hanging up his cleats. Backus announced his retirement Thursday after 12 seasons, all with Detroit. Backus was selected in the first round of the 2001 draft from the University of Michigan. His streak of 187 consecutive starts, a franchise record, was broken last November when he was kept out of Detroit's Thanksgiving Day game with a hamstring injury.
