Trey Burke totaled a game-high 21 points as sixth ranked Michigan pulled away in the second half to down Penn State 83-66 yesterday afternoon in Big Ten Tournament first round action at the United Center in Chicago.

The win advances the Wolverines to take on fourth seed Wisconsin tonight in the quarterfinals. Michigan was ahead only 35-33 yesterday at halftime and five minutes after the break, Penn State was just a point behind before the Wolverines kicked off a 25-to-7 run to take control.

The Michigan victory avenged a six-point Penn State win over the U-of-M at College Station in late February.

Michigan State, the tournament’s third seed, plays Iowa tonight in the last quarterfinal game after Iowa defeated Northwestern last night 73-to-59.

In the Mid-American Conference tournament last night in Cleveland, third seed Western Michigan won its quarterfinal matchup with Eastern Michigan with the Broncos beating the Eagles 70-to-55 behind a game high 23 points from Shayne Whittington. W-M-U will now take on number-2 seed Ohio tonight in the semi-finals.
