BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO) -- Was it a kidnapping or just a misunderstanding?   A Battle Creek woman, Heather Arrendondo gave permission for a trusted family friend to take her two toddlers to West Virginia for a funeral, and then became concerned when he didn’t return when he was expected. She was worried because he stopped answering his phone.

62-year-old Aaron Washington finally turned on his phone yesterday, got all the messages that were waiting for him from Arrendondo and Battle Creek Police and called them to say everything was fine, he just didn’t have the money to get back.

They called local authorities and had him arrested for two counts of kidnapping. The two children were on their way back to Michigan.
