NEVADA (WKZO) -- Eight Marines are now dead due to an explosion at a live fire exercise in Nevada. Among the dead was a former west Michigander.
Lance Corporal Joshua Taylor reportedly grew up in Martin and lived for a while in the Otsego area, before moving to Marietta, Ohio 9 years ago. Taylor was 21. He and his fiancée had just sent out wedding invitations.
Brigadier General James Lukeman said the blast occurred at the Hawthorne Army Depot, when a mortar round detonated prematurely. Several others were injured in the blast. The Marine Corps is banning the use of all 60-mm shells until they can be investigated.
Taylor’s family is waiting to hear when the body will be released. Instead of a wedding, they are now planning a funeral.
